# Create or import a wallet

> Set up a wallet and back up your recovery information.

## Create a wallet

Open Arksat and select the option to create a wallet. Set an unlock password and back up the recovery phrase shown during setup.

New wallets use a 12-word recovery phrase. Store it offline and verify the backup before adding funds.

## Import a wallet

Import a supported 12- or 24-word recovery phrase, or use the private-key import option. Enter words in their original order.

## Unlock password

The password unlocks the local wallet. It is not a substitute for a recovery phrase or private key.

## Before receiving

Check the selected account and network. Use the [receive page](https://docs.arksat.xyz/en/wallet/receive.md) to obtain an address for the intended receive method.
