# Backup and recovery

> Keep recovery information available before resetting a wallet.

## Back up

Store your recovery phrase or private key offline. Never share it with a website, support agent, or another person.

## Forgotten password

The unlock password protects local wallet data. Recover access using the recovery flow and your backed-up recovery phrase or private key.

## Before resetting

Confirm that your backup is complete and readable. Clearing wallet data or uninstalling the extension does not restore missing recovery information.

## Restore

Import the original recovery phrase or private key and select the correct account and network. See [wallet setup](https://docs.arksat.xyz/en/wallet/getting-started.md).
